Kitchen Timer Trick

Sunday, March 18, 2007

Here is a quick and easy trick for your kitchen if you are cooking something that requires a timer, but don't have a timer. Assuming you have a microwave and are not using it, set your microwave to time the food in your oven or on your stove and now you have an instant kitchen timer.

Um, this is kind of a bad idea.

Outside of being incredibly energy-inefficient, you should at least put a cup of water in the microwave if you do this. Otherwise, the unabsorbed microwaves could bounce back and fry your magnetron.

Just stop by the dollar store and get a timer, is my suggestion.

Ummmm..actually, almost all modern microwave ovens come with a built in "timer hold" feature where you can set the timer but the microwave won't actually run.
